By using a solar water heater we gain from 40% to 80% savings in money and energy. This percentage varies depending on the quality of the solar water heater.
BOILER-TANK
The first criterion is the size of the tank which has to do with the average consumption of hot water per person – mainly in winter when the sunshine is clearly less – taking into account the water also used by washing machines or dishwashers.
The container of the solar water heater must be internally coated (double enamel) DOUBLE GLASS. This method (GLASS) is considered the most suitable for its special elasticity and for its resistance to very hard water, so as to protect the tank from cracks due to contractions and expansions.
To have a stainless (INOX) outer coating, which is particularly resistant to coastal areas, humid climates and the sun's ultraviolet rays.
To have polyurethane insulation of high density and thickness (at least 50 mm), so as to ensure hot water even at polar temperatures (below zero).
The metal construction of the tank should be 3 millimeters thick
The closed circuit of antifreeze must be protected by a jacket, so that it works properly even when it is freezing and at the same time protects the collectors from the water salts, which are known to be responsible for clogging the pipes of the collectors.
SOLAR PANELS
Be sure to be selective. Selective collectors can yield up to 40% more than simple solar panels and the absorption of solar radiation reaches up to 98%. The copper surface of the solar collector must be coated with titanium (selective collectors) and the glass must be unbreakable (SOLAR TEMPERED GLASS 4 mm) for resistance to hail and special crystals (to minimize reclassifications of direct radiation).
The solar panels should have ventilation holes to avoid the creation of internal water vapor due to the temperature difference especially in winter in humid climates
It is very important to choose the correct size of the collector in order to have sufficient hot water in winter and summer (eg an old water heater of 160 lt should have a collector with a surface area of 2.5 sq.m and not smaller but not larger unless there are reasons for shading etc. )
A solar water heater must be closed circuit (operation with antifreeze) because it can withstand low temperatures in winter (solar panels are not damaged). It gives us 50% more life limit and more efficiency.
A solar system must have a declaration of conformity to ELOT (CE) and a performance grade test report from DEMOKRITO.
It must be 100% Greek made
It is good that the first service of our system is done at the end of the second year of its operation and then every 2 years.
